The latest version of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is out and I have been playing a lot of it with a Human Assassin and a Deep Elf Necromancer and really enjoying myself. This is probably the best roguelike out there right now, and it's free, so if you haven't tried this one yet, get it now.

Dungeons and Dragons Online
When I was a kid, I loved getting the Gold Box games from TSR. I remember being excited about Hillsfar, because I could ride a horse in a video game. Those games were great. Then along came Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment...some of the best games ever. Then came Neverwinter Nights. Wow. I was in love. (Speaking of which, over at Impulse/Gamestop, you can buy a digital copy of the DnD Anthology and have all these games, including sequels and expansion packs, forever).
So in 2006, when Dungeons and Dragons Online first came out, I picked it up right away. No hesitation. I absolutely loved it. It wasn't perfect. Many things were missing, as per most MMOs when they first come out, but it had the foundations laid in place. I switched jobs and moved far from home, and my PC got left behind, then died during cargo transit. I bought a laptop which didn't have a graphics card capable of running the game, and thus my DDO adventures came to an end.
Time went on and for a variety of reasons, I forgot about the game. Until recently when the expansion pack, Menace of the Underdark, was announced. I decided to get back into the game, which was now free-to-play. Due to being a subscriber way back when, I started off with a premium account. I found that my level 7 Rogue was still there, waiting for me to pick up where I left off.
It took me a bit to get my bearings, but I quickly got back into the swing of things. But now there is a lot more to digest. New classes, races, crafting, quests, challenges, high resolution version, etc. So much great new content being added on a regular basis, and a huge expansion coming this summer. It's going to be a huge year for this game, and I am happy I got back into it at the time I did. So happy in fact, that even though I had a premium account, I went ahead and sprung for 1 year of VIP status for an even $100.
If you happen to play, come see Abu Musaab on the Sarlona server and we can kill some hobgoblins together. Happy questing!
