Terraria only $2.50 on Steam (24 hours)

I've been playing a lot of Terraria lately and really, really enjoying myself.  I bought this game a while back during the Minecraft hype and never really even gave it a playthrough.  Boy, was I mistaken.  It's, in my opinion, waay better than Minecraft, and actually a lot of fun.  And right now, it's only $2.50 on Steam.

My crappy house.
Now is the best time to buy this game because today, Dec. 1st, a new patch will bring us Terraria 1.1 which will pretty much double content, adding 39 new enemies, including 4 bosses, 3 new NPCs, and 222 new items.  Wow.  Don't miss out!

Dungeons of Dredmor 50% off!

Dungeons of Dredmor is on sale for only $2.49 on Steam for the next 24 hours rest of the week!  Do not miss this opportunity.  With the new patches around the corner and the expansion pack coming up, this is a great time to go after Lord Dredmor.

UPDATE:  To show some love for Linux users, Gaslamp Games has dropped 50% off of Dungeons of Dredmor on Desura for the duration of the Steam sale.  Aren't they sweet?

Look how much fun I'm having!
I heard you like RPG's, so in addition to Dungeons of Dredmor, tons of other games are also on sale with big discounts.  The ones you should buy right now without even thinking are:

Dungeons of Dredmor - $2.49
Avadon: The Black Fortress - $4.99
Cthulhu Saves the World & Breath of Death VII Double Pack - $1

Ridiculous.

Wing IDE 4.1.1 released

I may seem like a Wing IDE fanboy, but it's because I am.  They released version 4.1.1 a couple weeks ago, as well as a number of patches since then.  To get 4.1.1, you will have to go download it from Wingware, and the other patches will be automatically installed by going to Help > Check for updates.

My Wing IDE
The biggest improvements here are all the Auto-editing features.  Here's a list:
Changes in Version 4.1.1
  • Supports goto-definition on symbols in the shells
  • Many improvements to auto-editing
  • Auto-indent when pasting multi-line text in Python code (undo once restores original indentation)
  • Experimental Turbo auto-completer mode for Python that treats any non-word key as a completion key and Ctrl, Alt, and Command as a cancel keys
  • Added Smart Tab preference to control type of indentation or disable indentation at line end
  • Indent to Match menu and tool bar items toggle indentation to one indent position lower if already at matching indent level
  • Improved auto-indent of else, elif, except, and finally
  • Allow disabling auto-focusing of tools when press F1/F2 with User Interface > Other > Auto-Focus Tools preference
  • Allow setting environment variable WING_TEST_DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE to use a different settings file when running Django unit tests
  • About 30 other bug fixes and minor improvements

Tales of Maj'Eyal: Age of Ascendancy

Beta 35 of Tales of Maj'Eyal: Age of Ascendancy has been released.  It is an open source, free roguelike built on the special T-Engine, which is included in the download.  It has a wonderful point and click interface, great music, and an gorgeous tileset.  It is full of the stats and intricacies that make roguelike lovers love roguelikes.

Delicious stats...
The team is receiving plenty of donations and development continues at an amazing pace.  If you haven't check this one out yet, now is a great time.

You can download the Windows or Linux versions on their site, as well as the source code, if you wish.

I found a piece of paper.
Tales of Maj'Eyal and Dungeon Crawl are the open source roguelikes of the future.  Toss in Dungeons of Dredmor (only $5 on Steam or Desura) which has patch 1.07 coming out next week (hopefully), modding, and an expansion pack next month, and, whether you run Windows or Linux, you got 3 roguelikes that should sate your appetite for a long, long time to come.

Skyrim + Horrible Steam Patch

My adventures in Skyrim have been put on hold today thanks to a new patch from Steam (I assume) on the TESV.exe file of Skyrim.

The purpose of this file was to lock the EXE so it cannot be modified and so it must be run through Steam's DRM.  Many people have a problem with this, and they should, but that's not my issue.

My issue is this:

Nice Shadows, eh?
The shadows have been utterly decimated by this patch.  I have tried all settings, and even deleted and re-downloaded the game from Steam, yet the issue persists.  Worst of all, Bethesda continues to ignore these issues and says their patch is coming approximately 1 week after Thanksgiving, which would make it around December 1st.  I did not have this issues before this worthless patch, so I am shelving Skyrim for the time being.  If I need my Elder Scrolls fix, I can always play Morrowind and Oblivion. :)

In other news, DICE released a new patch for Battlefield 3 today that includes many improvements and I am really, really enjoying it.  If you are still undecided between Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, let me push you in the right direction.

Oblivion on sale in Steam!

These past few weeks have dragged me back to Tamriel, and I will be writing up some Skyrim related posts, with screenshots of course, very soon.

But ending tomorrow is Steam's Midweek Madness sale which can net you Oblivion's Game of the Year Deluxe Edition for only $6.24.  If you don't own a copy of this game for any reason, you should not miss this opportunity.

Oblivion is, and always will be, one of my favorite games of all time.  Now if you don't mind, I must go kill a rather troublesome spider in some Dwemer ruins.

A typical Skyrim wedding.
